Fall weather offers the perfect temperatures for running your pup! Here are our favorite leashes for running with your dog.

  • Hurtta Jogging Leash – This leash frees your hands by using an ergonomic handle and is a great alternative if you are not comfortable using a hands-free waist leash. The leash comes in various strengths and lengths, and can meet the needs of any dog.
  • Hunter Training Freestyle Reflect Leash – Sturdy, weatherproof, thick and reflective, everything you need for a good running leash. Hunter, a German company, specializes in handcrafted, high-quality goods for dogs that are meant to last forever.
  • Ruffwear Slackline Adjustable Leash – This adjustable leash is multi-functional! The handle can be hand-held or waist-worn. The length can also be fully extended for relaxed walks or shortened for more control when needed. It also has a padded handle and comes in a variety of fun colors!

Other Helpful Tips

Leashes should be replaced when they start fraying or you feel like the integrity is compromised.

Avoid using retractable or bungee leashes. They limit control and can be a hazard to other runners or bikers on running paths and trails.

The length of the leash depends on your height and your dog’s size. It should allow your dog to freely run beside you with slack. If your dog can jog in front of you when your arm is not outstretched, then it is too long.
