For those of you living in colder climates, winter can be ruff for certain breeds.

Though we aren’t facing any extreme winter weather here in Santa Monica, we do gear up for early morning hikes five days a week and know a thing or two about keeping our shorter-haired dogs warm and snug.

To combat the cold, we’ve put together a list of five essential winter products to help your dog stay cozy, happy, and healthy until the spring!

1. Musher’s Secret

Though Musher’s Secret can be used all year round, it is extra helpful during the winter to prevent your dog’s paws from cracking in the cold. Put the salve on their paws to keep them well hydrated and happy!

2. Booties

Paw Salve isn’t enough to keep your dog’s feet from being comfortable in the snow? Try putting them in these booties from Ruffwear, designed especially for winter weather. You’ll love watching them learn how to walk with them on their feet, and hopefully, they don’t learn how to take them off!

3. Reflective Jacket

Unless your dog is bred for cold-weather climates, they will certainly appreciate an extra layer of warmth. Outward Hound makes insulated, reflective jackets that allow your dog to enjoy the snow and stay visible. Other brands that we love include RC Pets, Ruff Wear, and Hurtta.

4. Nose salve

Similar to their paws, a dog’s nose can get dried or cracked in cases of extreme weather. Snoutstick is an organic solution to this problem and works just like chapstick but for your dog’s nose. You can pick one up in our lobby.

5. Dog Snuggie

When the outdoor fun is over, throw it back to 2009 so you and your dog can get cozy by the fire with a dog Snuggie. That’s right, everyone’s favorite backward robe is now available for dogs. Woohoo!

How are you keeping your dog warm this winter? Let us know in the comments!

Seven Brilliant Ways to Pay Tribute to your Dog

If there's one conclusion we've come to after all these years of running a doggy daycare, it's this: we don't deserve dogs. Dogs are our best friends, our wing(wo)men, and our cuddle buddies. They protect us, make us laugh,...
