Thinking of including your dog in your holiday pictures this year? We’re here to tell you that is an excellent idea, and also, you probably need to get pups groomed before their photo op. Whether you’re looking for a haircut or a bath, follow these tips to let your pup look their best in this year’s holiday pictures!

Reserving your appointment

Don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your dog’s groom. Around the holidays, our groomer is especially busy due to heightened social engagement. We recommend calling to schedule your groom anywhere between 7 to 10 days before your desired appointment date to ensure you get a spot.

Getting the perfect cut

If your dog is getting a haircut before the photo session, we recommend scheduling the haircut 5 to 7 days prior to your shoot. As with humans, it takes a few days for dogs to adjust to a new haircut. Chances are your dog’s new cut will look more natural after a few days.

Corresponding with your groomer about what exactly you want for the haircut is super important. We’ve seen disappointed clients who simply did not communicate thoroughly enough with the groomer before the cut. Providing picture examples of what you want the cut to look like can be very helpful to the groomer. Talking face to face with a groomer is always the best way to ensure you’re on the same page. Communication is key!

Cleaning up before the shoot

Ideally, you’ll want to schedule your dog’s groom as close to the photo shoot as possible in order to make sure they’re nice and clean. If your pup loves to play outside, let them play in the morning and then wash them a few hours before the shoot. That way your dog will be tuckered out and looking pretty!

Can’t get a same-day groom? Giving your dog a simple brush out and rub down with a grooming wipe can spruce them up nicely!

While you may want your pup to look hashtag-flawless for your photo shoot, remember that they are still a dog. People will think they are cute despite muddy paws or awkward haircuts. Have a blast with your photo-taking, and don’t forget to send Fitdog a copy of your holiday pictures!
